Sometimes, a little distance is good for the writing process. I took a bit too long, not because I wanted to but because I have been reviewing creative writing portfolios and conferencing with students. Life and work have been very busy, but now it's time to get back to word-smithing. After all, it's spring break. In that hiatus, I have been studying poetry with my students, all my students, and reading fiction. I actually read one of my friend's smut pieces and had to put it down because it was more like porn. However, it did have a lot of action (ha ha ha), and the story had an interesting pace. I may actually finish it to see if the character grows or if there are more conflicts in the story. Actually, I laughed a lot in some sections, and now, I'm not entirely sure they were supposed to be funny. But back to my love of words I have to get back on a writing schedule, and since I also botched up my sleep cycle, (I have been going to bed a 3a.m. and that must stop.) I want to get back to revising this piece "La Bruja" and working on my novel early in the mornings. This week, I am also going to pay the editor of Down South where the Water is Warm some $$$. I haven't heard from him, but I am getting inspired to revisit my collection, which I haven't touched, since I finished this really long story that was giving me trouble. In short, it's time to get back to those loves with some clear perspective, and even though ideas are firing in my head for plots and characters, I am going to park them, until I can work on these three projects. For now, here is the story I said I wasn't going to post until I published it. I hope my sister is reading this because I need her feedback. Oh, and by definition, this is NOT a novella. It is actually a short story, still.
