So, So Focused on Labor and Negotiation Prep

My son and I at the Chicago anti-Janus rally.
PictureOn February, 24, Dr. Eilsabeth Greer gave one of the most moving speeches to fight school closures in Chicago. Keep it up, my union sister!
That my poor novel is like, "Yo!  Where the fuck are you?  I'm almost done!"

I thought this might happen, and in many ways, it's good that I am so focused on the contract negotiation and labor issues, but I haven't had time to even think about the story line.  I have been doing other non-fiction writing, which is equally good for the soul, but somehow, I really want to carve out some space for this important work.

This weekend was incredibly busy with labor events, including the anti-Janus rally.  (See the article I wrote a few months back.  More to come in March:  http://peoplestribune.org/pt-news/2018/02/billionaires-vs-right-unions-whats-stake-janus-vs-afscme-case/peoplestribune.org/pt-news/2018/02/billionaires-vs-right-unions-whats-stake-janus-vs-afscme-case/)

And now, my daughter calls at 5a.m., so much for my poor novel!

I just wanted to end with an image of me and my Union sister, Dr. Greer, who is fighting school closures in Chicago.  I guess if you're not going to write a novel just yet, then write history for the betterment of humanity.

MARIA J. ESTRADA is an English college professor of Composition, Literature, and her favorite, Creative Writing. She grew up in the desert outside of Yuma, Arizona in the real Barrio de Los Locos, a barrio comprised of new Mexican immigrants and first-generation Chicanos. Drawing from this setting and experiences, she writes like a loca every minute she can—all while magically balancing her work and family obligations. She lives in Chicago’s south side with her wonderfully supportive husband, two remarkable children, and a menagerie of animals.
