When I first started this blog in 2008 (yes, it has taken me this long to come back to in and only because I needed a forum to offer resources for some students in a Lit. 128 course), I had these grand plans of offering writing advice. That was awfully presumptuous of me, seeing how I can't follow conventional advice.  

I think I tried doling out my wisdom for a while on my other blog at http://border-edwriting.blogspot.com/.  But, sad to say, I could not keep up with it.  However, I think, offering advice I get from other writers and sharing the challenges I face while pregnant and trying to finish a book are both fair game.

Pregnancy offers a whole new challenge, besides having a full-time teaching job in an urban setting.  Luckily, I seem to be on an upswing and plan on publishing my book by December 2014.

Back to the advice.  I didn't get this advice while being a pregnant writer, but it is sound for anyone, and it came from poet Jack Hirschman who said, "You take a pencil and put it to a piece of paper and start writing."  I will have to say that is the best damned advice ever. 

Jack is an amazing poet, and he also lives life fully.  He is well traveled and speaks numerous languages, and while you don't need these attributes to produce great work, the point is that he LIVES and constantly learns.  He is also a deeply compassionate person, who knows what it means to be fully human.  I would argue, that many authors have tapped into that know-how and have fully connected with life and themselves. 

So, that is my advice for now. 

My pregnant writing advice, is when you can, grab a hold of the moments when your energy is high and put the pencil to the paper or, in my case, the keys to the keyboard.
