It's been a while. Just when I finally found a great editor, I took a hiatus. The problem is the contract negotiation has taken up a lot of my time, but I think I'm getting my creative writing mojo back on. (Well, it never really left. I just need to let the genie back out of the bottle.) In fact, I am going to try to schedule a time to meet her downtown this week for an hour. We have been meaning to get together and break bread, but my work and union meetings keep going very long. We are going over "La Bruja del Barrio Loco".
Anyway, I had one of those epiphanies. I realized--and here comes a really big "DUH"--that when I am not writing fiction or poetry, I should be reading or researching. I can do both in shorter spurts, and I definitely don't need the 3a.m. Pinche Gato Alarms to get me up. I know, real revelation. I have been doing other kinds of writing, but I need to get back to this love affair. That is all I got because I am going to read a Junot Diaz piece that recently came out in The New Yorker which was recommended by one of my CW students. My students are doing non-fiction writing this week, so they are reading this and a piece about Brandon Fraser. My awesome students have the option of writing a non-fiction piece or scene from a play as part of their final portfolio. Well, back to it. (Below, my other duty that makes me fully human, Simona (3), April 29, 2018 and Antonio (3), April 22, 2018.) Love your writing or whatever creative, positive thing you do. #Resist!
