Down South Where the Water is Warm and Other Totally True Short Stories from El Barrio
This is the title of the collection I have finished and is currently being edited by poet/musician/activist, Adam Gottlieb. I decided to not translate the Spanish, which was a block to the publication. The translations were taking too long, and I finally decided the Spanish wasn't crucial to understanding the text.
The collection is split into two parts, a Realism and Magical Realism/Fantasy/Horror section. I am publishing it through Amazon and printing hard copies on demand. Once published, students who contact me using a school email can get a free digital copy of the book.
A full sample from the collection, "Paranoia: The Corrido of Andrea Quinta" is up above.
The Harvest: A Novel
Currently, I am rewriting a novel (for the third time) titled The Harvest: A Novel. The Harvest tab will have the running file from now on, ideally, so my two primary readers can give me running feedback. This novel is a coming of age post-apocalyptic piece. The work is coming along beautifully. It is a first draft, with typos and narrative errors, but I welcome constructive criticism.
"La Bruja del Barrio Loco"
This semester, spring 2017, I finished "La Bruja del Barrio Loco," a long story which I have already started revising. I wrote that story for my little sister who, now, wants me to write another story based on a dream she had. (I didn't quite capture the correct story line the last time.) As it is turning out, these Barrio Loco stories will probably be a series of stories around La Bruja Ana, who is turning out to be quite the vile, formidable villain.
Below is my last publication in an anthology.
A Language & Power Reader: Representations of Race in a "Post-Racist" Era has a narrative from my dissertation. It was published in 2014.
Edited by Dr. Robert Eddy and Dr. Victor Villanueva, two prominent composition experts, the book promises to be a go-to resource for academics and teachers. The book is aimed at college professors and students, but I think high school teachers would benefit from it. I published a narrative in this anthology from my dissertation.
