Founded in 2020, in Chicago, the mission of Barrio Blues Press is to elevate the voices of emerging writers and to help build a cooperative society. Visionaries for a better world will be given a voice through the press.
Beginning with Nation: A Poetry Book by Penned in the City (for the Chicago Freedom School); to Unity: Volume 1, an anthology of international writers, poets, and artists, aimed at raising money for Doctors Without Borders; to free-forever books for young and seasoned readers bored at home: Barrio Blues Press began its mission, summer 2020 and continues to thrive.
We are elated to have our first author, Misael Juarez signed onto Barrio Blues Press with his collection, Spoken Word Wife, a complex book of LatinX/Feminist poems. It is scheduled to come out December 2020. Wolf Trek: A Post-Apocalyptic Werewolf Novelette will also be released in December. Proceeds for that publication will go to Jay Mehta's family. Jay Mehta was a phenomenal poet who left us too soon. He was survived by his wife, Priti, and young daughter.
In these ways, Barrio Blues Press will fulfill its mission and grow its scope. We are grateful for all the artists, authors, and volunteers who contribute to the press and for readers like you. Visit the Barrio Blues Press site for more information!
